The Lion's club purchases parishables (milk, turkey, bacon, eggs, bread, etc.) and along with the food donations from the school, provided over 50 Carlisle families with food for the Christmas holiday.  The food drive also helps to keep our "Blessings in a Bag" project going full strength, which provides weekend food for Carlisle School children in need.

Any foods that remain after the Lion's Club and Blessings in a Bag needs are met are donated to the Franklin Food Pantry, which benefits those in need in the Carlisle and Franklin communities.

CMS 8th Grader Participates in Air Camp

Max Allison, an 8th grader at Chamberlain, was one of only 136 middle school students nationwide to be selected to attend one of Air Camp's three summer sessions in the Dayton region, hosted by Wright State University. Max was the only representative this year from Carlisle.

Air Camp, a week-long residential camp, is sponsored by the Callahan Family of Carlisle.

The camp inspires middle school students to develop a passion for the STEM fields by exploring these subjects (science, technology, engineering, math) as they apply to aviation and aeronautics. Students learn the science and evolution of flight, take control during an actual flight under the guidance of a certified flight instructor, and collaborate with their peers in immersive activities at unique aviation sites throughout the Dayton area.

A graduation ceremony was conducted on the last day of camp in late June, with parents, family members and distinguished guests in attendance.

PATRIOT DAY REMEMBERED

SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 ...
A DATE THAT WILL FOREVER SHAPE OUR NATION

15 years later most Carlisle students are learning about the horrific terrorist attacks on American soil from teachers and parents through secondhand stories and social media replay, as they were not yet born to experience the tragedy that led to what they know simply as "Patriot's Day."

Mr. Brian Sprandel, 7th grade Social Studies teacher at Chamberlain Middle School, wanted to make sure that his students this year did more than just "learn" about the day of remembrance, he wanted them to also understand and embrace the significance of showing appreciation to the first responders who, on a daily basis, are ready for whatever situation may be at the other end of that 911 call for help.

So, in addition to "watching the firefighter documentary from 9/11," said Sprandel, "each class then discussed what it means to sacrifice for someone else. We also learned about how the date has transformed into Patriot's Day and what that means and entails. Then, three classes made thank you posters for the (Carlisle) police department and three made posters for the (Carlisle) firefighters, thanking them all for their daily sacrifices to keep us safe here in our community."

Pictured below is one of the classes & Mr. Sprandel, along with the "thank you" poster they made for our local heroes.
